Angelina Jolie cast as Maleficent

In three months Angelia Jolie will cast her spell in Maleficent, but Entertainment Weekly has made enduring it little more bearable with a sickening cover featuring Jolie in full evil fairy mode. In the accompanying interview, Jolie teases that scoring the part was a mixed blessing: “It is really funny when people say you’d be obvious for a great villain.”

Oscar nominee Barkhad Abdi far from rich from 'Captain Phillips' PAID $65,000

Barkhad Abdi was up for Oscar gold Sunday, but real wealth eludes him. Abdi has been widely praised for his role in "Captain Phillips" as the desperate pirate Muse, and even ad-libbed the film's signature line: "I'm the captain now." But a New Yorker profile reveals that he earned $65,000 for his performance in the $55 million film — more than two years ago. Now he finds himself struggling. There's no saying Oscar might changed his life. He already won a BAFTA for best supporting actor, and is now reading scripts in search of his next role. After filming "Captain Phillips," he went to work at his brother's mobile phone store in Minneapolis. But he decided to quit when the film premiered. 'Captain Phillips' Director Paul Greengrass Explains Why the Closing Scene With Tom Hanks Was So Authentic "How I thought about it was, like, When the movie came out, reviews either gonna be good or bad," he told the New Yorker's Dana Goodyear. "Either way, I cannot be working here." When Abdi is in Los Angeles to promote the film, Goodyear reports, he subsists on a per diem he can use at the Beverly Hilton, where the studio puts him up. A town car is available to the former limo driver, but only for official publicity events. He wears borrowed clothes. Abdi recently asked if he could stay at a hotel near LAX, to be closer to a friend, a Somali cabdriver from Minneapolis, who will drive him places for free. Abdi himself formerly drove a town car for his brother's limousine company. After the Oscars, Abdi plans to move to L.A. and live with fellow "Captain Phillips" actor Faysal Ahmed. Still, his life is better than it might have been. The 28-year-old was six when war broke out in Somalia, and rape and killing suddenly became common. His mother evacuated the family, first to be with Abdi's father in Yemen, where he was teaching math. Eventually they settled in Minneapolis in the Cedar-Riverside neighborhood, home to many Somalis. He was working for the limo company when he saw an announcement that a film was looking for actors to play Somali pirates. Interestingly, Abdi received more for "Captain Phillips" than fellow Best Supporting Actor nominee Jonah Hill did for "Wolf of Wall Street." But the news that Hill, a relative veteran, had received $60,000 for his role was greeted with widespread surprise. He said he agreed to work for scale for the chance to be in a Martin Scorsese film.

George Lopez arrested for public intoxication

George Lopez was arrested for public intoxication in a Canadian casino Thursday night after passing out on the floor. The actor/comedian made light of the situation at the Caesars Windsor in a statement to USA TODAY, saying, "Tied one on last night. Not feeling great this morning. I was trying to sleep it off, unfortunately, it was on the casino floor." A photo of Lopez lying on the floor was circulating on social media Friday, and a spokesperson for Windsor police confirmed to People that police officers took a male into custody at 11:25 p.m. "from the OPP Casino Enforcement Unit. The male was subsequently released with no charges." TMZ first reported the arrest.

Judge orders Chris Brown, "stay in rehab"

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A California judge has ordered Chris Brown to remain in an anger-management rehab program and told the pop singer to return to court in two months. The judge on Friday scheduled Brown's next hearing for April 23. That would come after what's expected to be a brief assault trial in Washington earlier that month. Prosecutors have asked that Brown be sent to jail for violating probation with his October arrest in Washington. In that incident, Brown and his bodyguard are accused of punching a man and breaking his nose outside a hotel. Brown is on probation for his 2009 attack on then-girlfriend, Rihanna. Brown's attorneys have asked the judge to await the outcome of the Washington case before hearing evidence on whether Brown should go to jail.

Hudson, Foxx, Pharrell get 'Happy' with Oscar music

The Oscars are going for all kinds of Happy with their musical numbers. All the Oscar-nominated songmakers practiced their hits Friday at the Dolby Theatre in preparation for their live performances on Sunday's Oscars telecast. Pharrell, who wore his now famous hat to the auditorium but took it off to practice on the Oscar stage, performed several house-raising renditions of his nominated hit song Happy from Despicable Me 2. Singing and dancing in front more than 30 young professional dancers, Pharrell worked the rehearsal crowd into an enthusiastic lather. Actress Kate Hudson, on hand for rehearsals, was dancing with such vigor that she had to take off her faux-fur vest. She alternated from bobbing in her seat to moving enthusiastically in the aisle. Actor Jamie Foxx and his daughter, Corinne, were also in attendance. Jamie Foxx even strolled up to the Oscar stage to show the professional dancers some impressive moves. Brad Pitt showed Corinne Foxx he knows a thing or two about taking a good selfie. "Move it over here to avoid the shadow," Pitt said with a smile as he posed with her for their photo. Slowing it down on stage, Yeah Yeah Yeah front woman Karen O practiced an intimate version of her nominated The Moon Song with Vampire Weekend's Ezra Koenig strumming on an acoustic guitar. The song is from director Spike Jonze's Her, and Jonze co-wrote the lyrics to the song. Jonze was a constant presence during Friday's run-through. Irish rockers U2 closed the rehearsal space to practice their song Ordinary Love from the Nelson Mandela biopic Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom. Broadway sensation Idina Menzel had no problems opening the house to her rehearsal for the nominated song Let It Go from the Frozen soundtrack. Menzel practiced with a full orchestra whose sounds were piped in from a remote studio location. Menzel gave a number of vocal variations to the final line in the song.. "I don't know, I'll just have to try it out," Menzel said as she readied for her live performance on Sunday. "I'll just have to go for it then."

BOBBY'S OSCAR PICKS

The country is in an uproar over who will take home an Academy Award this year. This is the first time I can remember that the Academy did it right with whom they chose to honor. The 86th annual Academy Awards will air at 7 p.m. EST Sunday on ABC. The list of nine Best Picture nominees showcases how impressive the film industry was over the past 12 months. The artistry, subject matter, stories and performances that make up these hopefuls are some of the best ever captured on film. Best Picture nominees include “American Hustle,” “Captain Phillips,” “Dallas Buyers Club,” “Gravity,” “Her,” “Nebraska,” “Philomena,” “12 Years A Slave” and “The Wolf Of Wall Street.” “12 Years A Slave” illustrates the power of the human spirit. My pick would be 12 Years A Slave Up for Best Actress this year with Bullock are Amy Adams (“American Hustle”), Cate Blanchett (“Blue Jasmine”), Judi Dench (“Philomena”) and Meryl Streep (“August: Osage County”). I’m going with Amy Adams for her role in American Hustle, Her body of work could warrant her the win, as Oscar voters tend to look beyond the nominated role when handing out Academy Awards. For Best Actor Matthew McConaughey, Christian Bale (“American Hustle”), Bruce Dern (“Nebraska”), Leonardo DiCaprio (“The Wolf Of Wall Street”) and Chiwetel Ejiofor (“12 Years A Slave”). Matthew McConaughey has Best Actor in the bag for “Dallas Buyers Club. Best Supporting Actress nominees, including Sally Hawkins (“Blue Jasmine”), Jennifer Lawrence (“American Hustle”), Lupita Nyong’o (“12 Years A Slave”), Julia Roberts (“August: Osage County”) and June Squibb (“Nebraska”). Lupita Nyong’o will win. Supporting Actors are Barkhad Abdi (“Captain Phillips”), Bradley Cooper (“American Hustle”), Michael Fastbender (“12 Years A Slave”), Jonah Hill (“The Wolf Of Wall Street”) and Jared Leto (“Dallas Buyers Club”). Leto was amazing, and will win! WHO DO YOU THINK WILL WIN?
